FOOTCALL RULES

PART 1: THE GROUP STAGES

We need your score predictions for ALL the Group Stages matches BEFORE the deadline.

A. You can submit your Footcall entry by going to the ENTER page.

B. Here you will need to complete all the yellow boxes on the screen. Give us your full name and choose a team name, please note that it will need to be a unique name from all the others. Team names are on a first come, first served basis, any player who registers a team name that has already been registered for that year will be asked to provide a new team name. No more than 30 characters in length and please keep it clean – the management reserve the right to alter any inappropriate team names. Crucially we need a phone number in case we need to contact you and a unique email address for logging in to check your predictions. If you enter a team and also submit an entry on behalf of someone else you WILL need to supply a different email address to that of the one used for yourself. We will send out notifications by text and those all important reminders to get your entries in, be assured that your number and email address will not be passed on to anyone else.

C. You will then be guided through each Group of teams taking part in the tournament. All you need to do is fill in each yellow box with a score for each match.

> NOTICE <
Please remember that we do have children taking part in Footcall so if you submit a team name that we deem unsuitable we will ask you to change it. No swear words, profanity, racial or sexual connotation are allowed. If we do not hear from you in time we will change it to something more appropriate.

Unless your team name is an abbreviation or acronym, please
DO NOT type it in ALL CAPITALS as this is deemed to be shouting and we will convert any such name to upper and lower case.

D. Then make payment for your entry… Entry Fee is £10. You can do this through PayPal where you will also be able to use your credit or debit card (see screenshot). When you click the Pay For Entry link you will be taken to the PayPal login page where you can complete the transaction. If you prefer, you can pay by bank transfer (see yellow panel above).

E. Once your entry has been received, your predictions will be collated and a copy will be emailed back for your reference. If you would like to alter your predictions or start again, please let us know by getting in touch via the CONTACT page to have your team deleted from the database.

F. That's it for the Group Stages! All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the tournament (and Footcall) and we will keep you posted with the results and league tables.

GROUP STAGES SCORING

THREE points will be awarded for guessing the exact result of the game. For example, if you predict the first game to be Germany 1 v 0 Scotland and the actual score finishes Germany 1 v 0 Scotland you score THREE points for correctly predicting the right team to win and the correct score. For this you will receive a coveted Red Square on the League Table. These exact scores will see you placed above other players who have the same total score but fewer red squares.

However if you predict the result to be Germany 1 v 0 Scotland and it finishes Germany 2 v 0 Scotland you score ONE point for the correctly predicting the right team to win but with the wrong score.

As there are no penalty shoot-outs in the Group Stages, it is possible for matches to end in a draw. If you guess the final outcome will be a draw i.e. Germany 1 v 1 Scotland and the result finishes Germany 0 v 0 Scotland you will receive one point. Of course if it finishes Germany 1 v 1 Scotland you will be awarded THREE points for guessing the exact score and result of the match.

All the Group Stages points you score are accumulated and carried forward to the latter stages of the competition.* There will be cash prizes for the top teams at the completion of the Group Stages.

PART 2: THE KNOCKOUT STAGES

After the final Group Stages matches are complete we then enter the second phase of Footcall... The Knockout Stages.

You don't need to worry about this stage at the moment, only when the Group Stages are over will you automatically receive notification to login to your Footcall account and complete your predictions for the Knockout Stages. From the 16 countries that qualify you need to predict which teams will win every match right through to the Final. That means ALL eight quarter-finalists, ALL four semi-finalists, BOTH finalists and the OVERALL tournament winner (WE WILL NOT NEED THE SCORES FOR THESE MATCHES – JUST THE TEAMS). Obviously if you guess that a team will go through to lift the trophy and they are defeated in an earlier round, you will sacrifice a lot of potential points, so choose wisely!

KNOCKOUT STAGES SCORING

• You will receive ONE point for correctly guessing each of the EIGHT quarter-finalists. (8 points)
These must be eight teams from the qualifying quarter-finalists
• You will receive TWO points for correctly guessing each of the FOUR semi-finalists. (8 points)
These must be four teams from your chosen quarter-finalists.
• You will receive FOUR points for correctly guessing each of the TWO finalists. (8 points)
These must be two teams from your chosen semi-finalists.
• You will receive EIGHT points for correctly guessing which team will go on to lift the trophy. (8 points)
This must be one team from your chosen finalists.

TOP TIP > There are a total of 32 points available in the Knockout Stages so select your teams tactically based on your half way position.
It is YOUR responsibility to complete your predictions for the Knockout Stages BEFORE the Round of 16 starts on…
Saturday 29 June 2024
There isn’t much time in which to receive your Knockout Stages forms back. Any late entrants may result in your team not scoring any further points in the competition.

> PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE AVAILABLE TO MAKE YOUR KNOCKOUT STAGES PREDICTIONS <
Your Knockout Stages points are added to the Group Stages points scored earlier into the overall Footcall league. There are also cash prizes awarded to the players who perform the best in just the Knockout Stages.

FOOTCALL AWARDS

MAX WOOSNAM AWARD

For the less fortunate Footcallers amongst us we have a special league table dedicated to all the players who are yet to score a Red Square 3 Pointer. This is decided after the Group Stages are completed. Players are ranked on the number of league points scored without receiving a three pointer for an exact score. Should there be a tie for the lead, a random draw will take place to decide the winner.

The Max Woosnam Award is named after the greatest sportsman who ever lived. If you've never heard of this legend you might want to read Mick Collins' book "All Round Genius" or check out this VIDEO which outlines all his incredible sporting accomplishments.

VUVUZELA AWARD

The player who finishes with the fewest points* in the Footcall league at the end of the tournament is awarded the prestigious Vuvuzela Award. In order to win this prize players MUST complete the Knockout Stages.

* If in the event of a tie for points at the end, the player with the fewest number of Red Square THREE pointers in the Group Stages will win. If these statistics are the same, the player who accumulated the fewest points in the Knockout Stages will be the winner. If these again are the same, the player who amassed the fewest number of points in the Group Stages will be decisive. If ALL these criteria are identical, the winner will be decided by the toss of a coin.

DIVISION WINNERS

As well as competing in the overall Footcall league, players are assigned a mini Division made up of a smaller group of teams. The purpose of the Divisions is to offer further prize incentives. Division Winners are the highest placed non-prize money winning players. So these are players who DO NOT win any prize money in any element of the competition. They will be offered FREE entry into the following Footcall. This cannot be rolled over to any other Footcall events in the future.

FAVOURITE TEAM NAME AWARD

After the Group Stages are completed, players are asked to submit their predictions for the Knockout Stages as well as voting for their favourite OTHER team name. The player with most number of votes for their team name will win a cash prize. NOTE: Players will not be able to vote for themselves.

FOOTCALL CHAMPION

The overall Footcall Champion will be the player who finishes with the most points* at the end of the tournament. There will be several cash prizes awarded to the players at the top of the league table with the best player being crowned the overall champion as well as having their name engraved on the Footcall trophy.

* If in the event there is a tie for points, the player with the most number of Red Squares THREE pointers in the Group Stages will win. If these statistics are the same, the player who accumulated the most points in the Knockout Stages will be the winner. If these again are the same, the player who amassed the most points in the Group Stages will be decisive. If ALL these criteria are identical, the prize money will be shared but the title will be decided by a name being drawn from a hat.
  • “I think Footcall has changed my life for the better. I won the lottery every week whilst it was on and I have received a lot more attention from more attractive women than I normally would. To top it all, I woke up this morning and could speak fluent Mandarin Chinese! Long live Football, long live Footcall." Neil White
