QATAR YOU HAVING A LAUGH?
Graham Weaver has claimed his first Footcall title in seven attempts. By the narrowest of margins, Graham stole the top spot right from under the nose of Jack Goodwin by stint of the fact Graham had five red squares to Jack’s four. Both Footcallers scored an incredible 62 points, that is just one short of all the games played in the whole tournament!
Let’s also give a big hand to Alan Williams who is up there on the podium with a very creditable 59 points. And from out of nowhere John Dawson has snuck on the inside rail to claim fourth Stuart Acott and Alex Church slip down to fifth and sixth respectively.
The eight points bagged for a correct Argentine victory today saw Richard Croft and Habib Kashi leapfrog a ton of Footcallers to move into the top ten. Dan Schroeck and Andy Brunt finish off all the players in yellow money bracket and not to mention score some of those all important Footcall Hall of Fame points.
Player of the tournament has to go to Graham Weaver and his team, Qatar You Having a Laugh?, who patiently bided his time to make his move topside. I spoke to him this evening and he was delighted to win his first Footcall crown in seven attempts. His wonderful achievement saw him scoop £340 for his efforts along with 10 HoF points to see him move up into 6th place…
well played Graham!Special mention should once again go to my brother, Simon Jenner, who claimed yet another Vuvuzela award for coming bottom of the pile. For those that don't know he is somewhat of a specialist at this and takes great pride in finishing last although I expect he did get a little nervous when he saw Morocco doing so well having picked them to win the tournament!
We raised a wonderful £284 for our two charities, Blood Cancer UK and Cancer Research UK which was collected from the entry fees of each Footcaller along with the generosity of many of the prize winners.
As for the football, in one of the most dramatic World Cup Finals ever, the game finished Argentina 3 v 3 France. Just like so many matches in the tournament the result was to be decided from the penalty spot which saw the Argentinians claim the trophy for the third time in their history.
